Variations from the previous Prostheses List - Part A (Prostheses)
The July 2008 Prostheses List (Part A) contains the following changes:
- 735 new billing codes (435 for new products, 101 for expansions and 199 for transfers);
- 4,944 products have been amended either by changing benefit/s, product information text or product groups/subgroups; and
- 590 products have been deleted.
Amendments to the July 2008 Prostheses List
The delegate of the Minister for Health and Ageing has made the Private Health Insurance (Prostheses) Amendment Rules 2008 (No.1) that amend the Private Health Insurance (Prostheses) Rules 2008 (No.1) that commence on 8 July 2008.
The Private Health Insurance (Prostheses) Amendment Rules 2008 (No.1) commence
8 July 2008. This is the same commencement day as the Private Health Insurance (Prostheses) Rules 2008 (No.1).
The amendments to Part A - Prostheses include:
- changes to the minimum and/or maximum benefits of sixteen (16) prostheses; and
- the addition of two (2) prostheses.
Gap permitted products
- As a result of the amendments, there are now 1,470 (15.8%) gap permitted products.
Currently, there are more than 9,000 products on the Prostheses List, which lists the no-gap and gap-permitted prostheses and the benefits payable for them.
The July 2008 Prostheses List commences on 8 July 2008. The next Prostheses List will be the February 2009 Prostheses List (effective 22 February 2009), which will be published on 8 February 2009.
NOTE: The AHIA online Prostheses database below incorporates recent amendments to the July 2008 Prostheses List as reported by the Department of Health and Ageing in PHI Circular 33/08 (issued on 2nd July 2008).
The circular incorporates amendments to the Part A - Prostheses List which includes:
- some description and grouping errors;
- fifteen billing codes with incorrect benefits;
- one billing code which requires the gap to be removed; and
- two billing codes which have been inadvertently deleted from the List.
The description and grouping errors will be addressed during the February 2009 Prostheses List cycle.
