CLOSING THE GAP
The "medical gap" is the difference between the Medicare
benefit paid by Medicare and health insurance and the doctor's actual fee.
Until recently Medicare determined how much a health
fund could pay for medical services provided in hospital. But the Government
has changed this and now allows Funds to pay higher benefits to bridge the
"medical gap."
All funds now include cover in most of their hospital
products which make it possible for doctors to reduce or eliminate the "gap"
and more and more doctors are now providing this service to their patients.
As with all benefit questions, you should always
discuss your situation with your own health fund before treatment if possible.
